Overview

ASTR 170B1 is a three-credit, general education course at the Tier I level intended for those students with no university-level background in science and mathematics. We will use the subject of astronomy to improve students' skills in quantitative literacy, in communication (verbal and oral), and in problem solving. Our course focuses on understanding (not memorizing) the physical processes at work in the Universe and on building an awareness of how science influences daily life.

Each day presents new "Daily Skills" in both numbers and writing that must be mastered quickly and will accumulate during the course. Students are expected to write clear sentences and paragraphs using good English grammar for all assignments and exams.

This Web site is the focal point for our course. All course materials (syllabus, homework, announcements, daily calendar, study guides, grades) are posted here and available for downloading. Our site has been linked to D2L, but we will not use D2L except to post Lecture Recordings under the Content tab.
