The mountain staff enforces the policy that there must be at least one certified user on the mountain at all times. We allow an observer to learn from a previous observer “the night before”, but you should recognize that this gives you minimal competence. A real understanding of the instrument can only come with a series of cycles of taking and reducing data and refining your technique.
If Joe Astronomer certifies you, he is to write into the nightly report that “New Guy is to be considered certified on 90prime.
