If the Steward site loses power but not the 4 meter then the most likely cause is that our main breaker has tripped. It is located in the rock house below the 4 meter. It is accesses thru the 4 meter. Steps to follow if this happens. REMEMBER the cordless phone do not work when the power is off.

1. Do a lightning shutdown for the 90“
2. Call Larry, he is the Kitt Peak site supervisor. His number is 318- 8611. If he answers then you should just have to wait while he re-sets the breaker. If he cannot be reached
3. Call Alfredo he is one of the Kitt Peak electricians and lives on site. His number is 318-8614. If he answers then it is the same as number 1. If not then
4. Call Bill he is the Steward site supervisor and his number is 318-8696. If he does not answer then
5. Use the hand held radios to call the Wynn or 4 meter telescopes and ask for help. If they can't help you
6. Call the Kitt Peak emergency number 318-8777. If you still cannot get help and you are a qualified person
7. You can get the keys to the 4 meter from the 90” control room.
   1. The keys are located on the East wall above the refrigerator on a wooden peg.
   2. You will need to get the arc flash gear from the 90“ electric room located to the left of the top of the entrance stairs on the 1st floor. You will also need a second person, a Kitt Peak radio, and a good flashlight.
   3. Go to the 4 meter visitor entrance, enter the automatic doors.
   4. Then at the second set of doors there will be a combination padlock, the combination is 1958, open it and ahead and to your right will be a door marked “stairs”. Open it with the 4 meter key and head down the stairs.
   5. You will come to a 2nd locked door which the same key opens, lights will come on automatically when you enter this door.
   6. Go ahead and to your right and you will enter a tunnel; again, lights will come on.
   7. At the end of the tunnel is another unlocked door enter it, go down 3 steps, and to your right is a large electric panel.
   8. Open the door and you will see a large circuit breaker marked U of A. If it is tripped, it will be in the middle position.
   9. With your PPE on slide the handle to the left (off), then slide it all the way to the right (on). That will turn the power back on to the Steward site.
   10. Leave the way you came in making sure all doors are shut and re-secure the combination lock, put back the PPE, and return to your observing.
