Image Stitching

If multiple images are in the same plane, or even individually stacked regions of a larger field, they can be combined into a large image combined from a panorama of images.

One good, free, tool is Microsoft Image Composition Editor (ICE).

While much more difficult, it can be done manually in Adobe Photoshop.

Stitching can be done with regular photographs, macro and all the way to microphotography.
